General Officer Assignments

The chief of staff, Army announced today the following assignments:

Maj. Gen. Heidi V. Brown, deputy director, Test and Assessment, Missile Defense Agency, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, to director, Global Operations, J-3, U.S. Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska.

Maj. Gen. Clarence K.K. Chinn, deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to commanding general, U.S. Army South, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Maj. Gen. Theodore D. Martin, commanding general, National Training Center and Fort Irwin, Fort Irwin, California, to commanding general, 2d Infantry Division, Eighth U.S. Army, Republic of Korea.

Maj. Gen. Walter E. Piatt, deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany, to director of operations, readiness and mobilization, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3/5/7, U.S. Army, Washington, DC.

Brig. Gen. William K. Gayler, director, Officer Personnel Management Directorate, U.S. Army Human Resources Command, Fort Knox, Kentucky, to deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany.

Brig. Gen. James T. Iacocca, deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Recruiting Command, Fort Knox, Kentucky, to the adjutant general of the U.S. Army, and executive director, Military Postal Service Agency, Fort Knox, Kentucky.

Brig. Gen. Donald E. Jackson Jr., to deputy commanding general for Military and International Operations, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Washington, District of Columbia. He most recently served as director, Joint Engineering Directorate, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan, and commander, Transatlantic Division (Forward)(Afghanistan), Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan.
