The Deputy Secretary of Defense Bob Work traveled to Iceland, Sept. 6-7, as part of a seven-day trip to Iceland, Norway and the United Kingdom.  During his visit he met with senior Icelandic officials to reaffirm the United States’ steadfast commitment to the defense of Iceland.

The deputy secretary visited Reykjavik and met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson and other senior Icelandic officials.  Discussions focused on the U.S. defense relationship with Iceland and items of shared national security interests, to include Arctic Security.

Work concluded his trip to Iceland with a visit to Keflavik Air Base, where he expressed appreciation for Iceland’s leadership role in enhancing regional cooperation on Arctic issues, including maritime search and rescue activities, and thanked Danish and U.S. Air Force service members for their participation in the current Icelandic Air Policing rotation in Iceland.
