On Monday, Sept. 21, Secretary of Defense Ash Carter will host a Lean In Circle with female military servicewomen and Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook COO and Founder of non-profit LeanIn.org. Lean In Circles are small groups that meet on a formal basis to foster a sense of organizational community and peer mentorship focused on supporting women in the workplace. Monday's event will present an opportunity for the secretary to sit in with a Lean In Circle of 12 military women of all ranks and services and listen to their discussion on the challenges and opportunities they face in the workplace.
Following the closed-door circle, Secretary Carter and Sandberg will each make brief remarks in the secretary's dining room at 1-1:15 p.m. EDT. The secretary will make an announcement related to Lean In Circles for the defense community. There will not be a Q&A session. Volunteer members of the morning's Lean In Circle will be available for pull-aside questions related to their experience as Lean In members and leaders.
