Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel met in Kuwait today with Amir Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jabir al-Sabah and Defense Minister Khalid al-Jarrah al-Sabah, Pentagon Press Secretary Navy Rear Adm. John Kirby said.

In a statement summarizing the meeting, Kirby said Hagel expressed appreciation for the strategic partnership between the United States and Kuwait and thanked the amir for his nation's support in the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant -- specifically, Kuwait's willingness to host U.S. and coalition forces in support of military operations.

The secretary and the Kuwaiti leaders also discussed the accomplishments of Kuwait's chairmanship of the Gulf Cooperation Council, as well as the common desire to support the Iraqi government in its effort to achieve greater stability, Kirby said.
