Secretary of Defense Ash Carter Hosts Ceremony Recognizing Military Olympians and Paralympians


Secretary of Defense Ash Carter will host a ceremony to recognize the 2016 Active Duty Military Olympians and Paralympians at 2 p.m. EDT on Monday, Oct. 3, in the Pentagon Courtyard.  Secretary of the Army Eric Fanning and Air Force Lt. Gen. Stayce Harris, assistant vice chief of staff and director, Air Staff, will also provide remarks. 
 
The military athletes  will be available for media engagements in the Pentagon Courtyard at the conclusion of the ceremony.  The military athletes and team coaches being recognized include:
    
Army Sgt. Nathaniel Schrimsher (modern pentathlon)
Navy Lt. Edward King (rowing)
Marine 2nd Lt. David Higgins (50-meter prone rifle)
Army Sgt. 1st Class Keith Sanderson (pistol)
Army Sgt. 1st Class Glenn Eller (double trap (shotgun))
Army Sgt. 1st Class Josh Richmond (double trap (shotgun))
Army Sgt. 1st Class Mike McPhail (men's 50-meter prone rifle)

Journalists covering the ceremony must be in place in the Pentagon Courtyard by 1:45 p.m. EDT.  Foreign journalists without a Pentagon building pass must plan on being escorted from the River Entrance Pedestrian Bridge only, or, if arriving at the Pentagon Metro Entrance Facility, must contact 703-697-5131 a minimum of one hour prior to your arrival. Please arrive no later than 1 hour before the ceremony if coming by Metro. U.S. journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the River Entrance Pedestrian Bridge or the Pentagon Metro Visitors Entrance only. If arriving by Metro, please contact 703-697-5131 a minimum of one hour prior to your arrival, and plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes before the event; have proof of affiliation and photo identification.
