Petty Officer 1st Class Leslie Cleaver directs the aircrew in the flight station to begin engine starts on a U.S. Navy P-3C Orion aircraft at Naval Air Station, Whidbey Island, Wash., on Jan. 26, 1996. The Orion is a land-based, long range, anti-submarine warfare patrol and surface surveillance aircraft. It has advanced submarine detection sensors such as directional frequency and ranging sonobouys and magnetic anomaly detection equipment. Cleaver, from Westminister, Colo., is a Navy Parachute Rigger. The Orion belongs to Patrol Squadron 46.
