NATO Commander Adm. Leighton W. Smith Jr. holds a poster of alleged war criminals
NATO Commander Adm. Leighton W. Smith Jr. displays a poster of alleged war criminals during a press conference held on board the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) on Jan. 19, 1996, as the ship steams in the Adriatic Sea. The flyer includes photos, names and descriptions of alleged war criminals indicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. The press conference was held in conjunction with the first in a series of Joint Military Commission meetings between all of the former warring factions in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The George Washington Battle group continues to operate in the Adriatic Sea in support of the NATO Implementation Force (IFOR) in Operation Joint Endeavor.
