Petty Officer 2nd Class Stanford Stenson carts a pair of bombs across the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) on April 11, 1996. The bombs will be loaded on a F/A-18C Hornet which is being prepared to launch for a training mission over a bombing range in Kuwait. The George Washington and its battle group are operating in the Arabian Gulf where they are conducting air patrols in support of Operation Southern Watch. Southern Watch is the U.S. and coalition enforcement of the no-fly-zone over Southern Iraq. Stenson, a Custer, S.D., native, is a Navy Aviation Ordnanceman.
