A flight deck handling officer on board the USS Enterprise (CVN 65) is engulfed in steam while directing aircraft onto the number one steam driven catapult during flight operations on April 27, 1996, while the ship is underway for Combined Joint Task Force Exercise '96. More than 53,000 military service members from the United States and the United Kingdom are participating in Combined Joint Task Force Exercise 96 on military installations in the Southeastern United States and in waters along the Eastern seaboard.
