U.S. Marines from Headquarters Company, 8th Marine Regiment, form a chain to move life jackets to their fellow Marines awaiting loading on a U.S. Navy Landing Craft Utility at Radio Island near Morehead City, N.C., on May 4, 1996, for Combined Joint Task Exercise 96. More than 53,000 military service members from the United States and the United Kingdom are participating in Combined Joint Task Force Exercise 96 on military installations in the Southeastern United States and in waters along the Eastern seaboard. The landing craft will transport Marines from the 2nd Marine Division to the USS Nassau (LHA 4) for the exercise.
