Petty Officer 2nd Class Jerry Brown loosens fasteners holding a panel on the fuselage of an F/A-18 Hornet parked on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73), on May 9, 1996, in order to perform scheduled maintenance. Brown is a Navy Aviation Structural Mechanic (Hydraulics) and is from Fort Wayne, Ind. The George Washington and its battle group were operating in the Arabian Gulf where they conducted air patrols in support of Operation Southern Watch. Southern Watch is the U.S. and coalition enforcement of the no-fly-zone over Southern Iraq.
