USS George Washington crew members participate in physical readiness training.
As the sun sets in the North Arabian Sea on May 9, 1996, crew members onboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) participate in physical readiness training under the red lights of Hangar Bay Two. The red lights help to preserve the night vision of the crew members. The George Washington and its battle group were operating in the Arabian Gulf where they conducted air patrols in support of Operation Southern Watch. Southern Watch is the U.S. and coalition enforcement of the no-fly-zone over Southern Iraq.
