U.S. Air Force engineers step off of a C-5B Galaxy at Al Kharj, Saudi Arabia.
U.S. Air Force engineers from the 823rd Red Horse Squadron step off of a C-5B Galaxy at Prince Sultan Air Base at Al Kharj, Saudi Arabia, on August 7, 1996. The Galaxy is bringing in engineers, equipment and supplies to construct a tent city to house U.S. personnel conducting Operation Southern Watch. Nearly 4,000 personnel, aircraft, and equipment are being moved from bases in Dhahran and Riyadh to the remote desert air base to reduce their vulnerability to terrorist attack. Southern Watch is the U.S. and coalition enforcement of the no-fly-zone over Southern Iraq. The 823rd Red Horse is from Hurlburt Field, Fla.
