C-5B Galaxy unloads support personnel and equipment at Al Kharj, Saudi Arabia.
U.S. Air Force support personnel and equipment are off-loaded from a C-5B Galaxy while a C-141 Starlifter waits in the background at Prince Sultan Air Base at Al Kharj, Saudi Arabia, on Aug. 8, 1996. The aircraft are bringing in engineers, support personnel, equipment and supplies to construct a tent city to house U.S. personnel conducting Operation Southern Watch. Nearly 4,000 personnel, aircraft, and equipment are being moved from bases in Dhahran and Riyadh to the remote desert air base to reduce their vulnerability to terrorist attack. Southern Watch is the U.S. and coalition enforcement of the no-fly-zone over Southern Iraq.
