Fuel storage facility takes shape at Prince Sultan Air Base at Al Kharj, Saudi Arabia.
A U.S. Air Force airman checks an empty fuel bladder rolled out in the desert at Prince Sultan Air Base at Al Kharj, Saudi Arabia, on August 10, 1996. The bladder, capable of holding 5,000 gallons of jet fuel, is part of the fuel storage facility beginning to take shape at the base to support the relocation of U.S. personnel conducting Operation Southern Watch. Personnel, aircraft, and equipment are being moved from bases in Dhahran and Riyadh to the remote desert air base to reduce their vulnerability to terrorist attack. Southern Watch is the U.S. and coalition enforcement of the no-fly-zone over Southern Iraq.
