Petty Officer Anthony C. Nauta fires up a jet engine on the USS Kitty Hawk.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Anthony C. Nauta, U.S. Navy, fires up a jet engine in the engine test cell on the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) as the ship steams toward the Western Pacific on Oct. 23, 1996. Nauta is performing a maintenance check on a F404-GE-400 engine used in the F/A-18 Hornet. Nauta, an aviation machinist mate from San Diego, Calif., is assigned to the Aviation Intermediate Maintenance Department. The Kitty Hawk and its battle group are currently en route to the Western Pacific and Persian Gulf on a regularly scheduled deployment to relieve the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) battle group.
