The Stabilization Force (SFOR) is activated in Sarajevo.
Members of the Dutch, French, German, and U.S. military watch as an Italian honor guard hoists the new Stabilization Force flag during the Stabilization Force (SFOR) activation ceremony in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on Dec. 20, 1996. The ceremony recognizes the transition from the Implementation Force (IFOR) and the change of mission from the implementation of the Dayton Peace Accords to SFOR and the stabilization of the changes brought about by that treaty.
