Lighter craft are moved to a staging area after being off loaded from the S.S. Sgt. Matej Kocak in the port of Paldiski, Estonia, on July 12, 1997, for Exercise Baltic Challenge 97. Baltic Challenge '97 is a multinational exercise conducted as a NATO Partnership for Peace initiative involving more than 2,600 military personnel from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden, and the U.S. The focus of the training is peacekeeping tasks and humanitarian assistance operations. The lighter craft will be used to move equipment off-loaded from the Maritime Prepositioning Ships anchored off shore to the exercise area on the beach.
