A U.S. Navy E-2C Hawkeye launches from the waist catapult during flight operations onboard the USS Nimitz (CVN 68) in the Persian Gulf on Nov. 10, 1997. The Nimitz and embarked Carrier Air Wing 9 are operating in the Persian Gulf in support of the U.S. and coalition enforcement of the no-fly-zone over Southern Iraq. The Hawkeye provides all-weather airborne early warning and command and control functions for the carrier battle group. The Hawkeye is assigned to Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 112, from Naval Air Station Miramar, Calif.
