Petty Officer 2nd Class Mark McDaniel, a Navy air traffic controlman, directs strike fighter and support aircraft during flight operations from the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) on Nov. 16, 1997. The Nimitz and embarked Carrier Air Wing 9 are operating in the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Southern Watch which is the U.S. and coalition enforcement of the no-fly-zone over Southern Iraq. McDaniel is from Cleveland, Ohio.
