Personnel and aircraft assigned to Carrier Air Wing 1 leave ghostly shadows and streaks of light as they move across the flight deck of the USS George Washington (CVN 73) during preparation for night flight operations as the ship heads towards the Persian Gulf on Nov. 19, 1997. The aircraft carrier and its battle group have been ordered to the to join the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) battle group already on station. The two battle groups will be operating in the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Southern Watch which is the U.S. and coalition enforcement of the no-fly-zone over Southern Iraq.
