A U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer bomber receives an in-flight refueling from a KC-10 Extender as the two aircraft fly over the Mediterranean Sea on Nov. 24, 1997. The Lancer will join a large force of over 170 U.S. Air Force aircraft in the region providing support to Operation Southern Watch which is the U.S. and coalition enforcement of the no-fly-zone over Southern Iraq. The long-range heavy bomber is deploying to the Persian Gulf area of operations from the 37th Bomb Squadron, Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D.
