The Tomcats and the Hornets are part of Carrier Air Wing One embarked on the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73). The Washington is operating in the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Southern Watch which is the U.S. and coalition enforcement of the no-fly-zone over Southern Iraq. The Extender is deployed to the Persian Gulf area of operations from Travis Air Force Base, Calif.
