Pfc. William Pocan hooks up a generator to provide power to WTNY radio.
U.S. Army Pfc. William Pocan, of the 642nd Engineer Company, hooks up a generator to provide power to WTNY radio on Jan. 13, 1998. A January 8th ice storm left thousands of upstate New York people without electrical power or heat. Personnel from nearby Fort Drum, N.Y., are working around the clock in support of communities crippled by the recent ice storm. Soldiers are augmenting community clean-up efforts and providing trucks, electrical power, mobile kitchens, heaters, and more than 60,000 sand bags. WTNY radio is one of the stations responsible for emergency broadcasts during the crisis.
