Petty Officer 3rd Class Walter Vanderhorst loads projectiles into the 5-inch gun aboard the Spruance-class destroyer USS John Young (DD 973) as the ship operates in the Persian Gulf on Feb. 9, 1998. The John Young is deployed from its homeport of San Diego, Calif., to the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Southern Watch which is the U.S. and coalition enforcement of the no-fly-zone over Southern Iraq. Vanderhorst, of Queens, N.Y., is a Navy gunner's mate.
