U.S. Army UH-60L Black Hawk helicopters load soldiers at Allen Army Air Field, Fort Greely, Alaska, on Feb. 19, 1998, for an air assault on the fictional town of Simpsonville in the Yukon Training Area during Exercise Northern Edge 98. More than 90,000 soldiers, sailors, Marines, airmen, Coast Guardsmen and National Guardsmen are participating the exercise. Northern Edge 98 is designed to practice joint operational techniques and procedures, increasing interoperability between the services. The helicopters are D Company, 4th Battalion, 123rd Aviation Regiment, Fort Wainwright, Alaska. The soldiers are from the 1st Battalion, 17th Regiment, 1st Brigade, 6th Infantry Division, Fort Greely, Alaska.
