Cpl. Shawn Walsh, U.S. Marine Corps, allows a young Haitian mother and son through a security checkpoint at humanitarian assistance site Saint Terese in Haiti on Dec. 15, 1998. Sailors from the 2nd Medical Battalion and Marines from 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines, Kilo Company, are setting up temporary humanitarian assistance sites to provide medical and dental attention to the Haitian people. Troops of U.S. Support Group Haiti are stationed in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in support of Operation Uphold Democracy.
