A U.S. Navy C-130 Hercules from Antarctic Development Squadron 6 makes the squadron's final departure from the snow-packed runway of Williams Field, Antarctica, on Feb. 17, 1999. The Antarctic Development Squadron, more commonly known as VXE-6, has supported Operation Deep Freeze for over 44 years. The mission is being taken over by U. S. Air Force aircraft from McChord Air Force Base, Wash.
