Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Henry H. Shelton (standing), U.S. Army, talks with crew members of the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) as they eat lunch on Aug. 19, 1999. The aircraft carrier is deployed to the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Southern Watch which is the U.S. and coalition enforcement of the no-fly-zone over Southern Iraq. Shelton is onboard the carrier during a visit to the Persian Gulf region.
