Flight deck personnel watch as an F-14 Tomcat hits the afterburner before launching from the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) during Exercise Foal Eagle '99 on Oct. 31, 1999. The Kitty Hawk (CV 63) and its embarked Carrier Air Wing 5 are participating in Exercise Foal Eagle '99. which is the 38th in a series of regularly scheduled rear area defense field training exercises. The annual exercise is held at a variety of locations throughout the Korean peninsula and involves some 30,000 U.S. military forces. The Tomcat is attached to Fighter Squadron 154.
