Secretary of the Army Louis Caldera unveils two new recruiting initiatives involving education options at a Pentagon press conference on Feb. 3, 2000. The programs are called College First and GED Plus, the Army's high school completion program. Joining Caldera on stage and adding their support to the innovative programs are Gen. Eric K. Shinseki (left), chief of staff of the Army, and retired Army Gen. Colin Powell (center), former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and current chairman of America's Promise. Secretary of Education Richard Riley and Sergeant Major of the Army Robert Hall also joined Caldera at the conference.
