Air and sea assets of the multinational Maritime Interception Force shadow the Russian-flagged tanker Volgoneft-147 on Feb. 3, 2000. The Volgoneft-147 was boarded in international waters on Feb. 2 during interception operations conducted by the Ticonderoga class cruiser USS Monterey (CG 61). While operating under the authority of United Nations Security Council Resolution 665 the multinational Maritime Interception Force routinely intercepts and boards vessels suspected of carrying contraband.
