Secretary of the Army Louis Caldera (left) and Alfred Rascon look at a photograph of Rascon and a copy of the citation for his Medal of Honor during Rascon's induction in the Pentagon's Hall of Heroes on Feb. 8, 2000. Rascon was awarded the medal by President Bill Clinton in an earlier ceremony at the White House today. Rascon received the award for gallant and selfless actions during an intense enemy attack in the Long Khanh Province of Vietnam in March 1966. At the time, Rascon was a 20-year-old specialist serving as a medic with the Reconnaissance Platoon, Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 503rd Airborne Infantry, 173rd Airborne Brigade (Separate).
