Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen (right) congratulates one of the sailors he re-enlisted aboard the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) as the ship operates in the Persian Gulf on April 7, 2000. Cohen presented each re-enlisting sailor with a commemorative Secretary of Defense coin. Cohen is in the Persian Gulf region to meet with U.S. troops stationed there and defense leaders of the Gulf region. Stennis and its embarked Carrier Air Wing 9 are on station in the Gulf in support of Operation Southern Watch.
