Infantrymen with the Montana Army National Guard trudge up a fire-scarred hill in Montana's Helena National Forest.
Infantrymen with the Montana Army National Guard trudge up a fire-scarred hill in Montana's Helena National Forest on Aug. 3, 2000, after wildfires ravaged the area east of the state's capital. Over 400 Montana National Guard men and women are currently on state-active duty helping fight wildfires in the worst fire season since 1988. These citizen-soldiers are attached to Company B, 1st Battalion, 163rd Mechanized Infantry, Boseman, Montana.
