California Air National Guard Capt. Joanne Peros checks on a role-playing patient awaiting air evacuation during a mass casualty exercise in the Atacama Desert north of Santiago, Chile, on Nov. 15, 2000. The mass casualty evacuation exercise was part of a medical and pre-trauma hospital response training exchange between the Chilean Air Force, the California Air National Guard and the Wilford Hall Medical Center of Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. Peros is attached to the Guard's 146th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron.
