Admiral Gehman and General Crouch brief reporters on the USS Cole Commission report at a Pentagon press conference.
Retired Navy Admiral Harold W. Gehman (left) and retired Army General William W. Crouch brief reporters on the unclassified version of the report of the USS Cole Commission at a Pentagon press conference on Jan. 9, 2001. The USS Cole (DDG 67) was the target of a terrorist attack in the port of Aden, Yemen, on Oct. 12, 2000, during a scheduled refueling. The attack killed 17 crew members and injured 39 others. The report looks into the terrorist incident to find ways of reducing our vulnerability to similar tactics in the future. Gehman and Crouch were appointed as co-commissioners by Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen.
