Following their meeting at the Pentagon on May 24, 2001, Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld (left) and Minister of Defense Mario Fernandez of the Republic of Chile (right) take questions from news reporters. Fernandez, in Washington, D. C., to deliver the keynote address at the Seminar on Research and Education in Defense and Security Studies being held at the National Defense University, used the opportunity to stop by the Department of Defense to discuss some issues of mutual interest with Rumsfeld. Chile's planned purchase of U.S. F-16 fighter aircraft was one of several topics they discussed.
