Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz (3rd from top, left side of table) chairs a meeting with a delegation from Russia led by Marshal Igor Sergeyev (2nd from the top, right side of table), special advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin on strategic stability. The talks, held at the Pentagon on June 20, 2001, were aimed at resolving Russia's objections to the U.S. plan to develop defenses against a limited ballistic missile attack, such as might be launched by a rogue state or terrorist organization.
