Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz (right) meets with Marshal Igor Sergeyev (foreground), special advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin on strategic stability. The talks, held at the Pentagon, June 20, 2001, were aimed at resolving Russia's objections to the U.S. plan to develop defenses against a limited ballistic missile attack, such as might be launched by a rogue state or terrorist organization. Also participating in the discussions on the U.S. side are (L to R): Col.
