Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs Craig W. Duehring announces during a Pentagon press briefing on Sept. 14, 2001, that President Bush has authorized the partial mobilization of the National Guard and Reserve forces of the United States. Up to 35,000 members will be called to active duty to perform duties related to homeland defense.
