The night launch of a Navy F-14 Tomcat becomes a trail of steam and light silhouetting the flight deck crewmen on the USS Enterprise (CVN 65) on Oct. 7, 2001. The Enterprise is launching aircraft for strike missions against al Qaeda terrorist training camps and military installations of the Taliban regime in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. The carefully targeted actions are designed to disrupt the use of Afghanistan as a base for terrorist operations and to attack the military capability of the Taliban regime.
