Secretary Stenbit and Director Green commemorate the issuance of the one millionth PKI certificate set.
Assistant Secretary of Defense for Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence John Stenbit (left) and Director of the Public Key Infrastructure Program Office R. Michael Green hold a Pentagon press conference on July 26, 2002, to commemorate the issuance of the one millionth Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificate set. The PKI system, which is incorporated into the common access identification cards currently being issued to Department of Defense military and civilian employees as well as selected contractor personnel, allows the DoD to allocate electronic information access on an individual basis. The technology is an essential link in moving the department towards a network-centric information system.
