U.S. Congressman Sam Johnson, of Texas, addresses the audience at the Pentagon parade field during the observance of National POW/MIA Recognition Day on Sept. 20, 2002. Johnson, an Air Force fighter pilot during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, spent seven years in captivity in Hanoi, Vietnam, after his F-4 Phantom was shot down on his 25th combat mission of that war. Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Richard B. Myers co-hosted the annual event.
