Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld holds a press conference in Warsaw, Poland.
Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld holds a press conference in Warsaw, Poland, on Sept. 25, 2002, at the close of the two-day informal meeting of NATO defense ministers. Rumsfeld pointed out that the meeting itself was historic in that it occurred on the soil of a former Soviet ally--a first for NATO. Each Autumn the defense ministers gather at a select location within the borders of one of the member-nations, instead of their usual venue at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, for the informal non-binding meetings. This year Poland became the first nation of NATO's former adversary--the Warsaw Pact--to host such an event.
