Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld and Gen. Richard B. Myers, U. S. Air Force, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, place a memorial wreath at the monument, in Arlington National Cemetery, to the 184 victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the Pentagon. The ceremony began with a moment of silence at precisely 9:37 a.m.--the time at which American Airlines Flight 77 impacted the southwest side of the building. A large audience, composed mainly of family and friends of the victims including many American Airlines flight crewmembers, attended the ceremony.
