A catapult safety observer looks to ensure that all personnel are clear of the foul lines before attaching the nose gear of an F/A-18C Hornet to the catapult shuttle prior to launching from the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) on June 13, 2005. The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group is conducting operations in support of multi-national forces in Iraq and maritime security operations in the Persian Gulf. Vinson will end its deployment with a homeport shift to Norfolk, Va., to commence a three-year refuel and complex overhaul. The Hornet is assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron 146, which is deployed aboard the Vinson from Naval Air Station Lemoore, Calif.
