Navy Seaman Whitney Clark directs a Landing Craft Air Cushion into the well deck of the USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7) as it steams toward the Gulf Coast on Aug. 31, 2005. The multi-purpose, amphibious assault ship will join other military assets as part of Joint Task Force Katrina. Joint Task Force Katrina will support the Federal Emergency Management Agency's disaster-relief efforts in the Gulf Coast areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina. The Landing Craft Air Cushion, more commonly known as an LCAC, can be used to deliver personnel, supplies and equipment to the beach.
