Rumsfeld (right) brief reporters at the Pentagon on the substantial military contribution to the hurricane relief effort now in full swing along the U.S. Gulf Coast on Sept. 6, 2005. Myers and Rumsfeld enumerated figures relating to the number of helicopter rescue sorties flown, number of rations distributed and quantity of potable water delivered to refugees. They also pointed out the work being performed by the Army Corps of Engineers in repairing the levees and draining the floodwaters from the city.
