Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Richard B. Myers, U.S. Air Force, gives his impressions of the destruction he witnessed on this past Sunday when he and Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld visited the regions of the Gulf Coast hardest hit by Hurricane Katrina during a press briefing on Sept. 6, 2005. Myers praised the relief work being performed there by members of the active duty and reserve components of the U.S. military, many of whom were themselves victims of the storm.
